Higher Rixdale farm is a working farm which enjoys the peace and tranquillity of the glorious South Devon countryside. Its 105 acres consists of grassland for our traditional Ruby Red cattle and sheep to graze and for the making of hay, protected heath land which is part of Little Haldon with wonderful views, and its own beautiful woodland and stream.

There is an absolute abundance of wildlife, where you can often see wild deer grazing and hares racing across the meadows. The farm is situated in one of the best areas for bird watching, with some quite rare birds including the Cirl Bunting, Nightjar, Woodlark and Dartford Warbler. The farm also includes a site of special scientific interest where you can find some very special plant species including Sweet Gale, Sundews and Orchids. Also on the farm are hut circles and burial sites which date back 4000 years.

We are lucky enough to have at the end of our lane, ‘The Elizabethan Inn’ Where Nick and Anne can offer you wonderful food, real ales, quality wine and local cider. We also have in the next village of Ideford 'The Royal Oak' A traditional old Devon pub where Jim and his staff serve excellent food and cask conditioned ales. In the immediate area there is golf, sandy beaches, water sports, walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing, tennis, bowls, crazy golf, river trips, to name but a few local activities. We also have near by Ashcombe Adventure centre offering a wide range of activities.

We are situated just 2 miles from the A380, this means that Higher Rixdale Farm is the ideal base for your stay in Devon. We are just 10 miles south of the Cathedral and University City of Exeter with its mainline railway stations with services to London. And Exeter International Airport. With Historic Plymouth just 25 miles away, you can even have a day out in Cornwall and visit the Eden Project.
